Wednesday night a friend and artist, Luis Marroquin of InnaTribe.com, called to see if I wanted to go to an art opening hosted by another J7 Collective member Alicia Vargas of Vargas DeZine. (She even owns one of my paintings.)
Of coarse, I was tired and didn’t want to go to Redwood City after working all day, but since Luis offered to drive and I wanted to support my fellow artists I decided to go for it. It was a good decision and we were greatly rewarded.
After cruising the beautiful 280 and through the winding hills to downtown Redwood City we arrived at the wonderfully decorated Aili Ice Designs, high-end floral boutique specializing in a variety of creative floral concepts. When we walked in the place was full of people drinking wine and eating big donuts. The donuts were really good. A band was playing groovy, funky, spaced out instrumental jams overhead on the second floor stage looking out over the entire room. (It would actually be cool to play with these folks sometime. I hear one of them works there.) There was also a hoop hanging from the expansive exposed ceiling where an aerial artist performed later that evening.
Three artists were featured in this show, Stefan Drobel, Christian Masulit and Megan Stevens, with the colorful paintings and black and white photos spread out through the creative arrangements and displays. It gave a really nice flow with lots of interesting things to catch the eye and compliment the art. I had a good talk with Stefan, the photographer of the show. He had a cool shot of a hot rod that I really liked. Plus when I went to his website later that night, which is really nice, I found that there was a piece of my art, a colorful pillow on a chair in the studio, in one of his photos from the J7 Studios photo shoot. You can check it out at http://inkpoetry.com.
Later we were treated to an aerial acrobatic display from, the beautiful, Cola Claret while the band played on. You can see pictures of the show on the Aili Ice Designs Facebook page. Then to top off the night we Alicia introduce Luis and me to the charming Aili Ice herself. She was very nice and explained the mission of the business and how they plan to have art show with music and that Luis and I were invited to possibly show in 2017!
Thanks again to Luis for getting me to go out and to Alicia and Aili for putting on a great show.
Enjoy!
