San Francisco is always a great place to go to art shows, see bands, dance to the latest djs, buy fancy chocolate and have expensive drinks. Thursday and Friday (April 21, 21 2016) they had everything under one big roof at the SOMArts Cultural Center and I even knew someone in the show!
Luis Marroquin had a beautiful wall of skateboards, paintings and sculpture at the latest San Francisco Chocolate and Art Show. There was art from floor to ceiling covering the whole place and as soon as you walked in you couldn’t help but notice the winged heart carved skateboard by Luis flying through the air. It soared high above the show and we had to wait till late in the evening for the crowd to clear to get close enough to take some pics.
The carved skateboards Luis Marroquin crafts evoke a very tribal nature vibe that really transcends time. His masks look like something that could have been found on an ancient escavation site.
Here are a few shots of the show. Be sure to check out Luis’ site to see updates on his latest shows and new pieces in his online store.
Luis also currently has work on display at Blue Door Beads in Oakland, CA till the end of April.
